Biography
Born in Vietnam, Christina Sing (Born Phuong Thao Nguyen) immigrated
to Canada at the age of 6. She was first introduced into the
Vancouver music scene by dancing to house music, and inevitably
becoming a DJ worshipper. Already an avid and encouraged singer in
her Church Choir, she was eager to share her lust for music.
Christina's strong, soulful sound belied her untrained past, and her
creativity flourished in collaborations with local DJ's producing
underground dance music. At the young age of 18, she was rewarded
with her first 12 " vinyl release on PFB Records, an independent
Vancouver music label. Her first track called "Time", cowritten with
producer Sean Dimitrie (Bombay Records) and remixed by Luke McKeehen
(Nordic Tracks) was put out in1998. Sean Dimitrie and Christina Sing
(then still known as Christina Nguyen) developed a working
relationship that birthed 2 worldwide vinyl releases.
"S'more" (remixed by DJ Rasoul and DJ Iz) was put out by Transport
Records in 2002 and "Every Player's Dream" by Village Recordings in
2003. Both tracks received considerable airplay from overseas in
Europe and South Africa ("S'more" charting Top 20 in DJ Magazine).
Christina went on to study Classical Voice for one year at Douglas
College, and studied for the next 3 years at Capilano College and
VCC, earning a diploma in Vocal Jazz, all the while prolifically
producing an arsenal of songs.
In 2004, Christina and her 4 piece electronic acid jazz band Free
Spank had the opportunity of opening up for renowned drummer and
producer Bobby James . A punk rock drummer who has toured with the
likes of Kid Rock, The Scorpions and Metallica, Bobby James uses all
of his industry knowledge and experience to fuel his addiction to
trance and house beats. His one-man show “Drumattic”- an
amalgamation of soundtrack, visuals and live drumming, has been
pleasing crowds in Canada for the last 8 years. But Bobby James’
real vision of rocking the world with dance anthems has become a
reality with the introduction of Christina Sing. Christina's dream
of writing timeless songs combined with Bobby's heavy beats and use
of scripted visual stimulation is Destineak.
Since their conception, Destineak has been ripping up stages all over
Western Canada as a duo displaying their infectious energy, while
meticulously producing their debut record “Imagine Nations”. A live
PA, drum, vocal and visual performance, Destineak's show is a feast
for the senses, riddled with prophetic messages. With their shared
vein of rock star ambition, energy to spare personality and
exceptional songwriting, these two have created a new mantra for the
underground dance music scene: “We are coming up and at you LOUD-
listen up!” Destineak: a Unique Destination. |
